Public health is “the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organised efforts of society.” It plays a vital role in protecting populations and addressing some of the most important health challenges of our time, from infectious disease outbreaks and antimicrobial resistance to chronic disease, environmental threats and health emergencies.

Because it is so broad and multidisciplinary, public health can also feel complex, fragmented or difficult to navigate, particularly for those new to the field. To add to this, the way people engage with information has evolved and continues to change, creating opportunities to think differently about how public health knowledge is presented. The goal of the Public Health Academy is to make public health easier to understand, explore and use. At its core is a focus on clear, evidence-based learning that is accessible to a wide range of people, while still reflecting the complexity and real-world context of public health.

Alongside more traditional learning approaches, the Public Health Academy explores interactive, visual, creative and sometimes more outside-the-box approaches that can help make important ideas easier to grasp, more memorable and more relevant to different audiences to broaden the ways people can connect with public health.
